A Guzman y Gomez worker has sparked disgust after he was filmed standing on a grill to clean the overhead vents. 































A grossed-out customer filmed the incident in Melbourne along with the caption: `Is that how you maintain the hygiene of the food? So disappointing.`































In the clip, the worker stood on top of the grill in the kitchen wearing shoes, as he wiped down the vents with a cloth. 































Next to him was a stove top which showed hot food being cooked on it.  































His other colleagues, three others, could be seen working while he cleaned. 































Footage of the incident was shared to TikTok with social media users slamming the sight. 































`I can`t believe my eye, I go here all the time,` one person commented. 































`I`m never ordering from them again,` another said.















































































The video showed the staff member (pictured) standing on the grill































Another said: `That`s not right, those shields slide out to clean.` 































Others were quick to defend the staff member, claiming the method is standard in the industry. 































`You do this in every workplace that has a grill, we do the same where I work, and obviously the grill gets cleaned,` one said. 































`Absolutely nothing wrong with this, standard procedure for most restaurants,` another added. 































`People who don`t work in hospitality will never understand,` someone else chimed in. 































`If the range hood gets this much detail clean, the grill will be alright after they clean it,` a fourth wrote.































There was also debate over whether or not the staff member was standing on a separate platform, baotayninh.vn placed between the grill and their feet.

`You can`t see the mat on the grill,` another claimed. 































The customer who shared the video said they couldn`t see anything placed between the grill and the staff member.































`There`s no cushion at all,` they wrote. 































Guzman y Gomez slammed the behaviour in a statement to Daily Mail Australia.































`We are aware of an incident that does not align with GYG`s commitment to food safety and the safety of our crew and guests,` a spokesman said. 































`The video that has been shared shows actions that are not in line with GYG`s procedures or standards that our crew are trained on.































`We take this matter seriously and are currently investigating the situation to ensure it is addressed appropriately.
